Factions and Reputation
Five factions, one shared scale — and falling to Hostile with any of them costs you something real and specific
Five factions run through Blister Online, each tracking your standing with them independently on the same five-step scale: Hostile, Neutral, Friendly, Honored, Exalted. Reaching Exalted with a faction earns its own unique flavour title, shown off through the Trophy Room's title system. Falling all the way to Hostile isn't just a locked door, either — every faction attaches a real, separate penalty to it. Each faction also runs its own dedicated quest chain, a much bigger source of reputation than any single interaction on this page covers.
The five factions
| Faction | What they reward |
|---|---|
| Bounty Hunters Guild | Bigger payouts from bounty contracts as standing rises. |
| Drift Bank Syndicate | Cheaper property prices and access to the Drift Bank. |
| Cult of the Abyss | Rewards depth and "dead gods" — standing with the cult that reveres what sleeps beneath the world. |
| Frontier Rangers | Cartographers who pay for verified, varied ground covered across the world — not simply distance walked. |
| Settlers Militia | Defenders of the city, raising a fighting fund against the Rival City's own war machine. |
What Hostile standing actually costs you
Each faction's Hostile penalty is a real, separate piece of code rather than a shared generic debuff — five different consequences, aimed at five different parts of the game:
- Cult of the Abyss — the single harshest of the five: every training method in the game stops working, anywhere, the moment you're Hostile with the Abyss, and stays locked until you climb back to Neutral. Not one training path, all of them.
- Frontier Rangers — the Rangers stop sharing survey data with you, and fog-of-war on the map reveals roughly 3x slower until you recover.
- Settlers Militia — the gunstore marks its prices up while you're Hostile with the city's own defenders.
- Bounty Hunters Guild — up to a flat 50% docked off every contract's payout (see Bounty Contracts).
- Drift Bank Syndicate — a flat 20% markup on every property price (see Real Estate).
Exalted titles
Reach Exalted with a given faction and you're granted that faction's own flavour title — Guildmarked Hunter, Vault Warden, Voice of the Abyss, Pathfinder Envoy, or Militia Champion — shown as your character's displayed title if it currently outranks anything else you hold. Reach Exalted with every faction at once and you're granted a title above all five individually: Champion of All Factions.
Version history
- Each faction's Exalted rank given its own flavour title, replacing a single generic "Exalted Envoy" string that had fired identically regardless of which faction it was actually earned with.
- Hostile standing given real, faction-specific teeth across several factions in turn — the Militia's gunstore markup, the Rangers' fog-reveal slowdown, and the Abyss's training lockout were each added as their own, separate consequence, following the same shape once one faction proved it out.
- v1231 — fixed the Faction Hall's own door not working at all. Penjamin City's Faction Hall — the building where all five factions' standing, envoys and task lists actually live — had no working way in: its district was never registered anywhere the game's building-door lookup could find it, so walking up and pressing [E] opened the Property Office instead. The panel itself was always complete and reachable through a menu button; only the physical door into it was ever broken.
Trivia
- The Rangers specifically reward varied ground covered rather than raw distance — walking the same stretch back and forth repeatedly doesn't build standing with them the way genuinely exploring new territory does.
- The Abyss's training lockout is deliberately the most severe Hostile penalty of the five — it doesn't just make one thing worse, it removes access to an entire category of the game's own systems until you've climbed back out of it.
